What's even worse about that is, even if debated here some, Denver is a pretty good hockey town. I know there are a lot more transplants since the glory days, but the Avs have a lot of playoff history. It's been a while, but it is not new.

Was about to post it's been what, nearly 30 year since the team moved there from Quebec City?

Agreed. I'd put them No. 2 here with their fan base (even with the Broncos sucking, no one passes them). And that rides on the fact DU is a college hockey powerhouse. It's a great hockey town. Very, very passionate.

1995. Won the Cup their first season, 1996.

Yes, I'd agree. If the Rockies ever got good they'd probably pass them, but that's a whole other story!

It's a bandwagon town, Broncos excluded, but even the past six years sucking and losing and not having an owner, they've had five-figure no-shows.

My boss has partial season tickets for the Avalanche and they screwed him over on playoff tickets/prices. But, hey, it's the Stanley Cup Final and suddenly watch parties have popped up, including across the street tonight from Coors Field and it was packed when I drove by on my way home tonight.

This place went nuts for the Rockies in 2007 and as great as the stadium/experience is, it's not what it was back then and certainly not when they were drawing 4 million a year in the 1990s. Though it should draw more so people don't have to stay home and tune in to the dreadful broadcasts of their games.

There were a few pissy viewer calls/comments over the anchors in Suns garb... and every single one of those was complaining about the one anchor who wasn't wearing a Suns jersey at the arena. He put one on the next day.

Viewers get excited about title runs. They do not want or expect the on-air talent to be dispassionate or "above" rooting for the team.

Just my observation from spending a fair amount of time in Colorado, but Denver has become very much a root-root-root-for-the-home-team media market, and one in which the teams’ fans expect the beat reporters to wave the pom-poms, too. Except regarding the Rockies, because they’re all in unison in wanting the Monforts to sell the team (which will almost certainly not happen in the next two generations).

Agreed. Media here is so small-town homerish on so many levels. Again, more Wichita than Denver. It's horrible..

I have outright disdain for half the NHL cities and the people who go to their games. Hockey just has no business anywhere near those places. I never put Denver in that category in my mind, and I think the support DU has always gotten really helped my perception along.

Offensively the Avs are/were the best team in the league by far. Numbers be damned, they don't give defenses time to get comfortable. Anyone on their top three lines can shoot and they play with a lot of movement. The closest thing to them in terms of depth and explosive play in the zone is probably Toronto.

Still it was a hell of a game. The Lightning probably figured some things out. The turnovers were bad and then the 5-on-3 goal is going to happen. They had an awful period and a so-so game. Colorado did what they had to do.

Tampa can figure out a lot. Cooper is a great coach and the players are driven. But Colorado gets on you so fast on the forecheck and the skill is off the charts. Talentwise, it shouldn't be much of a series. Even with Brayden Point back. But Vasilevskiy and Tampa's will even it out quite a bit.
