I’ve got a miserable heat in Montreal story, too. My Airbnb said it had A/C but when I got there on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, I couldn’t get it to turn on. It was 88 degrees inside. Long story short, the host neglected to mention that they only offered A/C in July and August. Coupled with a few other issues I might have let slide if there had been A/C, I was out of there after one sweaty night. Airbnb was great - they refunded my money and gave me a big credit (which I later used when I went to London a different time than during the heatwave).

Britishers drank warm beer because they didn't have refrigeration.
I knew a lot of them who came to Santa Monica. They always said, "How can you drink this stuff cold?" After a couple of weeks, they said, "How did we ever drink this stuff warm?"

Lucas Electric made the electrical system in many classic British cars, like Jaguars, Triumphs, and MGs. Their systems were notoriously tempermental,. Jaguars sometimes simply wouldn't start.

The old British Sports Car guy joke is "Why do the Brits drink warm beer?"

"Because Lucas Electric makes their refrigerators."

When I lived in New Orleans in the Eighties, it was next to impossible to get a New York-style cold deli sandwich. Everything was cooked, like a classic po' boy sandwich. I am sure that was an historic artifact of the hot climate there.

Why don’t the British make computers?
Because they can’t figure out how to make them leak oil.

My shop teacher in high school had an old MG Spitfire. So true.

My father, who loved hot cars, bought an XKE in 1964. It was a beautiful car and went very fast, but the hoses were all made of natural rubber. First prolonged hard freeze guess what happened. It was the first of the thing's constant maintenance debacles. In 1967, out it went. He got a 911.

The British-built Spitfire aircraft with Rolls-Royce engine is a legendary fighter and one of the most durable planes from WW2. Seventy are still operational.

Same legendary Merlin powerplant saved the P-51. Built here under license by the Packard car company.
