He has a point about Monahan recusing himself, but that whole board is a cartel that will surely keep out LIV. But I don't think it would be unreasonable for them to get half-points if that's possible. When all the dust settles -- and more players are coming this week and next -- the bottom line is that LIV is going to have a lot of very good players that the majors should want to have in their fields. Otherwise they're gonna be lessened, just like PGA Tour events are gonna be very soon.

There are a tremendous number of players in the world, look at how guys like Cam Young or Austin Riley , the key battle will be how long can the Tour stay strong and how long will Saudis invest.

We’ll see if anyone cares. The majors quite capably filled their fields before the advent of the world rankings and they can do without them now. There’s a dozen people at Augusta, the USGA, the PGA of America and the R&A who are able to assemble 156 players without ever referencing OWGR.

I haven’t followed this shit-show too closely but the bonesaw tour has 3-day events and shotgun starts. Isn’t that sort of like applying XFL stats to a player’s subsequent NFL career?

There are absolutely a lot of good young players, but there's only so many needle-movers and LIV has quite a few. People can say "Reed sucks right now, Bryson/Brooks are hurt, DJ's not his old self, Phil's washed up" -- all true, but there's still curiosity about how they're playing. LIV may end up with Fowler too, which would be a huge blow to the good-guy side of the PGA Tour.

LIV needs guys who're winning NOW. Otherwise, it's a sideshow. Actually, until they change their format, that's all it can ever be.

Aside from a plain old 72-hole stroke play tournament with a cut, what would a good format be. If you're an alternative tour, you should have an alternative format.

Problem is, I can't think of one that would only last three days aside from playing 36 on the final day to total 72. Maybe that's it.

There were a slew of stories last night/this morning about the great U.S. Open and how it was a "proper format," 72 holes, etc., in veiled and not-so-veiled shots at LIV. Well, sure. It's a major. They should never change. But that's not LIV's target, it's asking if for 8-10 non-major weeks a year if there could be a better way to do it. Is it 54-hole shotguns? Maybe, maybe not. But the PGA Tour's response so far isn't to look at its schedule of 40-plus four-round stroke-play events and suggest any changes are possible, it's "but, but ... legacy!"

When they start alternative football leagues, it's still four quarters, 15 minutes per quarter.
