According to exit polls, in the districts where Macron's party didn't make the runoff, about 75 percent of his voters didn't vote between the Melenchon and LePen party candidates. THAT'S why LePen's group got its strength. In the presidential runoff, a huge majority of Melenchon's voters went for Macron. This was not reciprocated. In the event, LePen's party is if anything more committed to the French status quo than the other two. It's weird this discussion is in the Ukraine thread. If anything, French public opinion has pushed Macron to be MORE supportive of Ukraine.

I hate to say, "You and what army?" but seriously, "You and what army, Putin?" Even if the other former Soviet states aren't as strong as Ukraine, based on everything we've seen in the past few months the Russians can't seriously think they're capable of opening a second front — let alone a potential third or fourth front — can they? They've got their hands full with this one.
Plus, I think a second invasion of a sovereign nation is the tipping point for the West. The strategy so far has been to isolate this thing in Ukraine, pour money and weapons into there, and try to contain the fire from spreading to all of Europe. Once that fire spreads, even if it's not to a NATO member, the international community has to step in and go all out to stop it. All bets are off — and have to be off — at that point.

And other than the stans, there aren’t many countries left that haven’t already joined NATO or at least have to deal with a NATO country to do anything. So unless he really does want World War 3 rather than just playing on our reluctance, he won’t.

It'd be one of those fun ironies if he tried to bring Afghanistan back into the fold and the Taliban told him to GTFO.
