Of course, a lot of the Dem nominees since the 1970s were just really good at running in presidential primaries. Carter in '76 was the first to understand that you had to compete in all the primaries and caucuses (after the system was reformed.) Walter Mondale was such a fundraising juggernaut that his campaign was called "Mondale Inc." Dukakis had a great ground game. Even Clinton knew she needed to smother everybody in 2016.

So, yeah, it's complicated but you can also call it the Peter Principle in action.

Making Kaine her VP should disqualify her from any future consideration. Such a useless pick and he didn’t move the needle on any important measure. Throw in totally ignoring the Upper Midwest and you suddenly have the Red Sox coming back against the Yankees down 3-0.

While disgraceful, the Southern Strategy was certainly effective for the GOP.

I have just one question regarding today's Kavanaugh/Roberts concurrence on the right to carry a gun wherever the fuck you please:

Bad enough we suffer your partisan 'originalism,' but is there no one in that whole fucking building who knows the correct spelling of 'straitjacket'?

    Best and brightest my ass.

Back to Mayor Pete: His biggest obstacle is getting elected to any higher office in Indiana as a Dem. His best bet is to find a bluish House district to run for and raise his profile. From there he could make a run at the Senate or governorship. Probably a little too green to be a VP pick right now.

Also, more guns = more gun crime.

So I guess they should have absolutely no problem with armed people near their houses, exercising their 2nd amendment rights. Even though they apparently do.

This "history and tradition" or "historical tradition" that these fuckers continue to tout in their rulings might be the scariest thing about the group. They can use it to mean whatever they want it to mean. It's not originalism, and it's not precedent. It's whatever they believe might have been important in their version of history. So they'll quote a 17th-century English judge who tried witches and endorsed marital rape, or decide that concealed guns didn't need to be regulated in 1791 so they can't be today. It's all vague enough to let them do whatever they want. They can decide what history is important and what's not and when history begins and when it's too recent to be called tradition.

Just a reminder, mobsters go to prison. It's what they do.
