The writer of this must have been a reformed Food section writer. My God. Tell us more about what the Treasury pointy-heads eat. Boiled down, removing all attempts at building suspense, the article is this:

Critical supply chains in Russia have been shattered. Hundreds of Western companies have pulled out of the country. Export sanctions have strangled Russia's access to essential technology and components necessary for entire industrial sectors. Tank factories have shut down. Missile manufacturers are scrambling for critical components and parts. An economy projected to grow in 2022 is now on a path to contract by as much as 15%.

Hooray! Ukraine a "candidate" for the EU!

So much self-congratulatory back patting! Huzzah! High five!

    Oh wait.

Ukraine's EU hopes rise as bloc's leaders approve candidate status - CNN

However, it is still likely to be years before Ukraine is able to join the EU. The process is lengthy and requires agreement from the 27 member states at almost every stage. This means that there are multiple opportunities for member states to use their veto as a political bargaining chip.

Well, the Germans have not been generous with getting the UKR weapons, but this is a solid move to help.
