Acting like you're a part of something you're not and ignoring important parts of the profession are not fun. You can have plenty of fun as a journalist without looking like an amateur.

The hoisting, wow. But even just touching it, I'm with you. I once worked at a sports venue where the Cup was brought in for photos with our venue's big trophy and I couldn't even bring myself to touch it.

I'm also starting to realize I'll probably never win it, either.

When a local guy won the Cup and invited some of us to his “Day with the Cup” party we took a photo next to it that we’ve used in social media promotion…. Never felt slimey about that.

Local team won it and had a photo day for the media to being families and pose with it at the rink too. Those were kept private not for ethics but just as no one needs to see my kids.

Never in a zillion billion years would touch it beyond a finger helping read the names. Hoist it? What the fuck

Having spent some time in Colorado, Denver seems to be a homer media market. So, this doesn’t surprise me.

I have a photo of me next to the Cup, never touched it but I know people who have hugged it etc., whatever, not my thing but to each his own. But they weren't acing like they'd actually won it. And like you, I realized that was as close as I'd ever get to it.

When I worked in the Ontario Hockey League the team I was with won the Eastern Conference Championship and I do have a photo of me holding that trophy which would eventually have my name on it.

So your outrage is just reserved for female sportswriters?

It’s not an exact comparison, but the local sports-talk radio guys in DC got rings AND were in the parade when the Caps won the Cup a few years ago.

So, no to rings ... but yes to a gifted engraved bat?

    Hmmm ...

Who share respect for the game?

He is in a tougher spot because of Landeskog's participation but probably even more reason to take a step back.

This response doesn't exactly make the action OK.

Agreed. Caught up in the situation, fine. But you're smoking a cigar. Your shirt is a mess. AND you post to Twitter.

    Complete fail.

When I was an SID, our men's basketball team won a conference championships, and our AD made sure the beat writer who covered us all season got a ring. A year or so later, AD also worked a deal where the beat writer would design our media guide (when those were a thing), but write a check to beat writer's wife so it wouldn't look bad. I left shortly after that.
