If Casper somehow wins this, the headline has to be “Ruud Awakening.”

If you ever wanted to see "dink" tennis, watch the Tan v. Serena match on ESPN right now. Tan is slicing her way through Serena, and Serena's age shoes she just doesn't have the athleticism to stay with the points. Serena has to do what you do to any dinker, you've got to take it early and put generate the pace yourself to blast through them. (Well I may have written this a bit early....)

I don’t believe Tan is a professional. Seems to have zero confidence she can actually win this.

This is like watching a match between two golfers who can’t break 100.

It's over. Down goes Serena in Round 1.

She looked very old and very tired. A lot like Federer in many of his recent matches (even some of those he won),

I hate to say she's done, but...

    Yeah, Tan has absolutely nothing.

Yep she's done. With Barty out, this was the one to get her over the hump, on grass, big serve, her professional cathedral and out in the 1st round to a dinker. Must be so painful to lose to someone who couldn't hit harder than a HS kid. I give Tan credit, she took pace off, kept the ball in play and let Serena press and make unforced errors. Brad Gilbert made it to the Top 10 playing this way (winning ugly.) (I personally had a dinker as a nemesis in HS and I had to just move inside the baseline and not be afraid to miss. I hated playing dinkers.)

Evert wasn't there, but Wozniacki continued the tradition of carrying water for Serena.

At 5-5 in the third, Serena didn't move for a drop shot. Caroline surmised that Serena "must not have seen it" :D

Bummer, its no different than Namath in a Rams helmut, Unitas with the Bolts, OJ with the 49ers, Willie! in a Mets uni, Hakeem in Tor, Connors getting smoked by McEnroe.

Martina, who is one of the top 3 players of all time and the epitome of fitness won 1 singles slam after she turned 30. Crazy that Serena was so good for so long.

    Martina played 1,661 matches.
    Serena has played 1,007.

Miles on the odometer. That's why she was so good for so long. She was parked in the garage for a quarter of her career.
