The Supreme Court, the "guardians" of our national legal system, has been turned into the local high school seniors painting their class year on a rock. Biden may as well expand the Court now. It's what Mitch would do.

    Maybe so.

But they turned into that a long time ago.

The judicial system is not a legislature. When people allowed it to start acting as one because they found it more expedient than fighting legislative battles they couldn't always win easily, they opened the barn door wide open for what we have today. It cuts both ways.

Packing the court would be more of the same. When you take the attitude that the ends justify any means to have your way, you are the problem in the country, not the answer. You erode our foundation some more and set us up for another crisis -- what happens when someone else packs the court further with their people? -- at which point you'll be complaining about what the other side did and be proposing other destructive shortcuts to subvert democracy and the rule of law because getting what you want is all that matters.

If what "Mitch would do" is wrong, it's just as wrong if your guy does it.

I agree with you - particularly the part about Congress letting the Court take the "tough votes" and allowing it settle the tough issues instead legislating - since justices are never up for re-election or have voters to answer to if they compromise.

That reminds me of how much I loved the Kevin Willmott mockumentary “CSA” that does Ken Burns if the Confederacy had won. We’re not far off at this point.

I figured the Dobbs decision was the finale - these last few cases have been further kicks to the mid-section. "But Wait! There's More!"

    I hate Mitch McConnell.

But to be fair, if they want a bill to promote the domestic manufacture of semiconductors, then make it a bill to promote the domestic manufacture of semiconductors. Period.

A clean bill. No amendments, pork-barrel add-ons, etc. This is the kind of horse-trading bullshit that paralyzes government.

Lower drug prices and increasing the tax share of the megarich are certainly worthy of separate conversations.

At least he used the right word ("conscience" instead of "conscious," which I see far too often, even from educated people).
