Not sure he’s in a position to negotiate.

I loathe stories like this. Trump is the most impactful president since FDR. He created the most powerful SCOTUS in generations, he fomented a coup attempt, he laid the groundwork for the next one thanks to literally hundreds of elected acolytes, he made his family unbelievable wealthy thanks to the connections they made while representing his Administration, and he single-handedly made the Justice Department an ongoing farce. Not to mention his mere presence sets the daily agenda for all forms of national media.
Like it or not, Trump is the most impactful president any of us have ever seen and the sooner clowns like the Atlantic and The New York Times and CNN fully comprehend the destructive power he has and continues to wield, the better. Our country hangs in the balance.

The problem for elite journalism is that elite journalists have a deeply vested psychological interest in perceiving the system where they believe they are close to the top of the heap as if not the best of all possible worlds, one that works well. If it is instead wholly dysfunctional, with an active and vicious minority eager to strip any democratic veneer off its machinery, then those elite journalists are more or less wasting their time and their lives. This they will never recognize. The New York Times is indisputably a reasonably big cog in the American system. It is impossible for it to tell readers said system is fucked.

“We are wasting our time and our lives because the system is fucked” doesn’t seem particularly responsible. Or journalism. The NYT’s exhaustive coverage of Jan. 6 using camera stills and high level graphics would suggest the paper is pretty engaged in a top-shelf process.

    TigerVols-

    I agree, more stilted horseshit.

The only thing more tiresome than Trump is putting his ass on the couch. The time for diagnosing his malfunction has long passed.

Who fucking ever cared what his problem was. All efforts should have been on how to meet the crisis. These pieces are as gassy as he is.

If those pieces didn’t get traffic they wouldn’t be written.

    Alma,

The face Atlantic, New Yorker and Slate writers think we make while reading their work.
