Alabama Power has the kind of “fuck you” monopoly rules Ma Bell used to play by in the 60s and 70s.

Yeah, I remember when they tried to put some turbines quite a ways off Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard and a bunch of people had a snit about their "views being ruined" or some such nonsense.

This is literally too nuts, so you know I'm not making it up:

Just yesterday, some people who own a large parcel of land were seeking county approval to put in a multi-acre solar farm. They already have a contract with a company, and the power will be sold to the local utility.
One of their neighbors got up to speak against it, saying he didn't think the former owners (who have been dead for many years) would want something like solar on their family farm.

I can't for the life of me see the aesthetic objection to a solar farm. Windmills, sure, but solar? It ain't like you're gonna see the damn panels.

Give Abbott a break. He's too busy eliminating rape.

Your knowledge of Texas government is a lot like your knowledge of other things.

You’re going to see a lot more solar than wind in the future.

Wind’s a pain in the ass. Cost to make, cost and unease to transport, cost to erect, kills birds, inefficient, can’t put it on the roof of a home, etc.

Wind’s gone about as far as it’s gonna go.

POST SCRIPT: Ok, in thinking of it, I can imagine circumstances in which one might have a legit aesthetic gripe. Our house in the mountains of NC, it looked out over multiple pastures (owned by other people). Assuming those pastures are properly oriented, it would suck to see them covered up in solar panels.
