Weird story, beginning with the idea that spriget champion Bobby East was a "NASCAR driver." Less than a dozen Nationwide starts doesn't make it so.

I saw on Twitter over the weekend that he had died, but I honestly thought it was his father, the car builder. As it is, the circumstances weren't explained. I'm not sure this story makes it any clearer, to be honest. Wrong place, wrong time.

Damn, that's awful. I saw that SI.com also referred to him as a Nascar driver. Just the best way to get clicks, for better or worse.

I'm really annoyed that Indy Toronto is only on Peacock. I guess that's on me for not noticing in advance, but still.

They’ve been promoting that on every race broadcast for the last two weeks.

I thought it was an entertaining race in front of what appeared to be a legitimate sell out after years of papering the place and that’s great to see here. I haven’t been in 20 years or so when the grid was stacked with CART studs and loads of Canuckistani content, might be due for a return next summer.

Added bonus of few commercial breaks and no Leigh Diffey.

Scott Dixon wins his 52nd race to tie Mario for second all-time behind A.J.'s 67.

That's a tremendous achievement. (Scott Dixon winning, not Leigh Diffey.) Although I must admit no Leigh Diffey was better for my eardrums.

But I wonder if he's well-known even in New Zealand, compared to say Bruce McLaren, Chris Amon and even Denis Hulme.

I am sure they did, but I have zero recollection. During Road America and Mid-Ohio, I had a precocious 5 year old asking me rapid-fire questions about everything happening on the track. It doesn't allow me to focus on what the broadcasters are saying very well. I indulge because I want to foster that interest.

When I covered the 500, I did hits for Radio New Zealand on Dixon. During the race, they'd be on the air with their morning show. Nice people, was only a couple minutes' time commitment. And sometime in late June, a check would arrive in the mail for around $80. I never told them that American sportswriters don't expect compensation for radio hits.

The flipside of the few commercial breaks? If you get home late in the race and try to go back to the start like you would on DVR, Peacock doesn't allow that. I had to wait until after dinner to see the first half of the race. An hour after the race was over, it still wasn't available so I watched the men's marathon from Eugene. I watched the British feed; funny that they knew how to pronounce Eugene, unlike Leigh Diffey.
Kudos to Scott Dixon on tying Mario for second on the all-time win list. Given the lack of longevity many Ganassi drivers have had over the years (Zanardi, Montoya, Wheldon, maybe Palou?), kind of amazing Dixon has had such a long career there with few (if any) contract issues that I can recall.
Nice finish for Rosenquist, but I'm surprised he didn't get a penalty for elbowing Rossi into the wall.

“Getting back into”? They’re already in WEC … or were you referring to something else?
