The MAGAs always counter with Biden’s deferments for asthma.

About that:
1) Asthma has always been a disqualifying condition for military service. My father tried to volunteer for Korea and they wouldn’t take him because of asthma.
2). Biden’s father was a used car salesman, not particularly rich or politically connected.

Given those things I tend to think his deferments were legitimate.

 

Thank goodness Biden will be the last president whose draft status we will care about.

At least until Herschel Walker.

Biden was born in 1942. He was of draftable age in a time well before Vietnam. Had he been drafted and inducted, he never would have been sent to a war zone.

 

For a non-combat role, would asthma still be disqualifying?

 

My grandfather was a carpenter prior to WWII. He was missing a big toe that got chopped off when he was as a kid. He tried to enlist more than once. They wouldn’t take him. He asked to work as a carpenter building barracks, etc. They still wouldn’t take him.
