I think I might have headlined that npr piece differently, because it's almost entirely devoted to authorities discussing why they're struggling to stop it.

Exactly. Reads like a headline that was written in advance and based on the assignment rather than the actual copy.

Hope he feels better soon. BTW, how’s his 401K doing?

Hopefully everyone on this thread who has it (or whose family members have it) will be better soon.

Anecdotally, lots of people we know in Central Washington have come down with COVID in the past month. Close to half my newsroom has had it, despite many people still working remotely.

I think there’s something to the idea of a few lucky people having a natural immunity to COVID. My son, for instance, has been around numerous friends who were infected, even before the vaccine was available, and never has tested positive.

(knocking on wood) I am way less social than him, but also have not caught it, despite my wife testing positive twice (she works in health care).

Still, I’m getting all the vaccines and booster shots when I can, because I think we’re at the point, unfortunately, where COVID is going to be a permanent part of our society from here onward.

I wonder if getting it before it was really a big thing in the U.S. has helped me with immunity. Yes, I'm vaxxed and boosted, but I'm also around a lot of people every day and haven't worn a mask in months. Yet I seem to have avoided it completely. I had it in December 2019/January 2020 and was pretty bad off for nearly a month. Tested positive for antibodies a few months later, so I know it was COVID.

I haven't had it to my knowledge. My spring allergies are terrible, so I might have had mild Covid and just assumed it was my usual May misery in any of the last three years. I'm vaccinated, double boosted, and still wear a mask in some settings, like the supermarket, but we eat out enough to mean I must've had some exposure. Just lucky, I guess. My son and his wife have had it twice in the same time frame.
