    OK ... but the concept of Charles Barkley offering swing tips would be a turrible move.

    I doubt that he's a "true believer," but like just about anyone in golf, he probably enjoys cozying up to the rich and powerful and anyone who'll lower his taxes.

    In the midst of all this, I found myself frustrated. I mean, I think I know why most of the participants are into this farce (money) but why would the Saudis be in on golf? Kind of hard to get a quick 18 in while wearing a kaffiyeh in Riyadh in June, but that's probably it. More than any other sport, golf is full of people who are willing to suck up to dignitaries, whether it be MBS or Judge Smails, and professionally unscrupulous enough to cash the checks.

    Chip gets at something that I have never gotten about LIV. If the Saudis are in it to improve their public image in the US and Europe, surely they must see by now (they're not stupid) it's a dismal failure that in fact has had the opposite effect. Like most Americans, golf fans don't think much about foreign countries or policy. Now, they are seeing Saudi Arabia in their field of interest and it has reminded them, "hey, those guys suck. It's a terrible country!"

    Norman still appears on Fox promoting LIV and other ventures
    Wonder if a deal with Fox is in LIV’s future

    A dismal failure? They're stealing players left and right, and now charismatic broadcasters. The events themselves are well-run from what I've heard. They've got the PGA Tour scrambling to adjust their schedule. I think they believe that if they can just hold the line for a year, a lot of the criticism will go away. Because sports fans forgive a lot of things and the golf media can't ask Phil and Co. the same questions forever.

    Bottom line is there's still a lot of golf fans that just want to see Bryson pound a drive, Phil hit a flop, Patrick Reed tamp down a lie and Dustin Johnson's overall freakness. And LIV is serving some markets that would never see that in person otherwise. No one can say this wasn't pretty well thought out.

    I hope everyone has someone in their life who has their back like @playthrough has for LIV golf.

    I get that the Saudis literally have blood on their hands … but we’ve had some pretty awful pro sports team owners in the states, too, over the years.

    I think once the LIV Tour is around a little longer and gets on TV, fans will have short memories about how the new league got its start.

    Is a 14-tournament schedule doable? That's only a quarter of the year -- and that's an increase from the current schedule. Being on and off each week (or two or three or four) won't help. No Sunday finishes, so wasting a weekend day. Overseas events won't help with TV in the States. Assuming they get a TV partner.

    It all feels like a December hit-and-giggle event.

    A U.S. TV partner and being allowed into the majors are obviously the key. Seems the R&A is ready to take a hard stand. But will it ultimately?

    There will be evolution to the revolution. As LIV continues to add players, I see this happening:

    The 14-tournament (18 including the majors for those qualifying) schedule expands to 18-20;

    Sunday play and a cut is added (“We’re evolving,” Norman will say, noting it will help the World Rankings issue);

    The shotgun start is used only on weekdays, and is split into mornings and afternoons;

    At some point (say, the third year), LIV drops signing bonuses and institutes qualifying, both yearly and weekly (say the last six spots in a 90-player field, which is about the size of the Masters). By this point, Fox signs on and some tournaments have sponsors;

    The team aspect, with outside investors, doesn’t catch on and is shelved;

    All that makes it like every other tour, only richer. And if there are ranking points, it becomes the No. 1 tour, like it or not.
