Deceptively dark movie endings

Years ago, I received a screener for Pain and Gain. It was an okay caper movie with some standout performances. As I was writing the review, my editor asked me what I thought of it and then asked me to sit on the review for a while. It turned out the real kidnappers tortured and killed their victim. His family was suing. ME wanted to see how the story developed.

Yep, that’s why I mentioned the DM execs. My larger point was that Kimble’s gonna be in the clear unless DM can somehow bump off Gerard and his entire team. Doesn’t matter what tale Sykes tries to tell.

    The book was very dark.
There was some criticism of the movie for making it into a feel good story, unwilling to tell a dark tale. I read a blog post that defended the movie. The writer argued that the movie told a slightly different story with it's own logic.

I saw the movie long before I read the book. The movie is definitely a different story. I don't think I'd want to sit through a movie that stays true to that book.

Sounds like it'd be like "Everybody's All-American," where we watch Gavin Grey live up to the title for about 30 minutes and then get kicked in the nuts repeatedly for the next 90 minutes.

Loved the book by Deford, the movie was okay.

Disney tried to address that one with a short in its animated, kid-friendly series, Forces of Destiny, but I'm not buying it.

I watched it once because I went to LSU and wanted to see the locations they used in the movie. It turned into a horrifyingly depressing two hours.

I wonder what Jem's reaction was when he woke up and was told he'd get 'the credit' for murdering Bob Ewell to protect Boo Radley's privacy. A lot to ask a kid to go through life with everyone thinking he murdered someone, even if it was in self defense. (Embarrassed to admit I haven't gotten around to reading Go Set a Watchman yet so not sure if it is addressed)
