Still not sure why you @ me with each post about the guy, but I'm aware that he hits well against right-handed pitchers. The Mets had been looking to add a bat like that. I'm just not sure the guy they gave up is really that much of an asset. I think it was you who mentioned it earlier. He has been good in 15 major-league appearances, but I don't think he was ever anything all that special since he was drafted in 2016. Maybe he finally figured some things out. He is very tall, 6-foot-7. Sometimes those guys take longer to figure out their mechanics. I'm just not sure the trade moves the needle much either way.

Now the Mariners' story is that Julio Rodriguez injured his wrist sliding back into second base the day before the All-Star break. I guess they didn't like the impression that he might have hurt it in the Home Run Derby. The problem with that is they look even dumber for allowing him to participate in the derby if he had an injury, even a minor one. Either he didn't tell them about it, which was dumb on his part, or they let him participate anyway, which is a bad call by the training staff. Rodriguez was a late scratch right before Friday's game and he is out today, too.

He and Ty France also caught ceremonial first pitches last night from the Mariners’ 2001 All Stars, Bret Boone and Mike Cameron, as part of the unveiling of the 2023 All-Star Game logo.

I guess Julio’s wrist felt good enough to catch one ball last night.

And today in Seattle, another young Mariner phenom, Logan Gilbert, locked in a good pitcher’s duel with Justin Verlander. Scoreless in the fourth.

Either that is a sign that they are just being very cautious with him now or it is yet another sign that they are being really, really stupid.

If he even had the tiniest inkling of discomfort in his wrist, he should not have been in the derby.
