They grew up just a few blocks away from the Greenwood District here in Tulsa, the neighborhood which was destroyed in the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, an event that included witness reports of planes dropping bombs on the neighborhood. There were even rumors the song was referencing the massacre, but Charlie Wilson said in an interview that the only bombs the song was talking about were bombs “made of love.”

All staples in my 80's Funk Spotify playlist. (Admittedly, I actually prefer Slick Rick's "Give it to Me Baby" over "Superfreak")

Yeah, I shoulda thrown "Brick House" and "Superstition" in there too. The Al Green really isn't a great fit, but my lord, I love that song.

Al was/is sooooo smooth, he's got a double album of great stuff. Unfortunately (IMHO) he then retired and went preacher/gospel mode.
