Or perhaps because it would distract him from his burning quest for revenge.

My wife pulled that off awhile back. She had one of her friends convinced she knew about football, when all she did was throw out some phrases she heard me say when I was watching games (yes, I talk to the TV all the time).

I am sure that ring he put on last night had some significance, but damn if I know what it is

The football stuff dated the episode precisely. Martinez's big game against Oklahoma State his freshman year was Oct. 23, 2010.

Gene wouldn't wear a pinky ring, but Saul damn sure would.

    He's back in the game.

This episode sets up Jimmy/Saul/Gene's final downfall.

Didnt imagine Jerry from Parks and Rec would have a bigger role than Carol Burnett when all that was announced a few weeks ago.

I liked the episode. Timing’s curious with so few left and giving people that kinda pause after the Kim shocker will tick off a lot of viewers. But I liked it.

I think they've said that they didn't plan for the AMC-imposed break when crafting the season, so they probably didn't realize there would be Howard's death, long break, Lalo's death, and the emotional fallout from that. Originally, that would have been a hell of a three weeks, so a bottle episode with Gene probably helped the audience catch their breath a bit more.

Small nitpick, but leaves were on the trees with all that snowfall.

It belonged to his old con man buddy from (IIRC) Chicago in one of the earlier seasons. He broke it out a couple of times when he was hustling somebody, so him putting it on again was a signifier that he's working a con.

This can't be the last we see of Gene, right? He wasn't able to get the clean break from Cabbie Jeff that he wanted because of the mother. The last scene shows that he can't completely quit the game, no matter how much he knows he needs to. And now he has to keep bringing the security guards those cinnamon buns every night or they'll get suspicious. He's got appearances to keep and responsibilities now.
