The South Florida Sun Sentinel is looking for a strong voice and solid journalist for its next Miami Dolphins columnist.
Our ideal candidate can expertly analyze transactions and players, break down the salary cap in plain English and generate an abundance of engaging opinions about South Florida's most storied sports franchise, on deadline. Qualified candidates must have proven experience building a loyal audience with a strong social media presence.
Although about 80% of the job is commentary and analysis, there is some news reporting involved. The columnist is also a journalist and must have experience developing sources and breaking news. Expect some travel and the need to sometimes scrap your evening plans to write a breaking story or column. South Florida is a highly competitive market, and we are looking for a journalist who thrives on competition and communicates well with editors and other reporters as part of a team.
Candidates should have at least five years' experience covering an NFL team and some experience writing columns.

The Dolphins aren't the only game in town any more, but dang, Kathy ought to have a tough decision to make.

It's a Green Bay-Pittsburgh level of fan interest and team history, but with way better weather. If you have the conviction to write what needs to be said about this franchise and where it's headed, you'll be both lauded and condemned by the readership. And wear sunscreen.

And yes, before you take the job, know the starting lineup of the 1972 team backwards and forwards, because everyone from Coral Springs to Coral Gables reveres every single one of those players, and isn't afraid to opine about whether Jim Mandich was a better tight end than Marv Fleming. And don't confuse Mark Duper with Mark Clayton.

 

Looks like experience selling cutlery won't be of any help here.

I'd also add that if you run into one of the players from the '72 perfect season team, NEVER, EVER suggest that it wasn't the greatest team of all time (although some of them have been known to admit that the '73 team, which lost a few games but won a Super Bowl in dominant fashion, was as good or better).
