I read in an NPR piece that the author of the book and her husband are under investigation in Africa for being a part of killing poachers.

Mr. Hockey: The Gordie Howe Story. Randomly found this on an off-brand cable station. I figured it was almost over because when I tuned in, the Howes had just moved to Houston. Nope, that’s the movie. His year in Houston, playing with his sons.

Surprisingly, I enjoyed it. It was cool to see all of the old WHA jerseys in action; they were authentic with names and nicknames of the players; there was a few scenes with Bill Goldthorpe that made me laugh because of Slapshot; Gordie complaining to Colleen about Bobby Hull wearing a pimp coat…overall a fun movie.

Finally got around to seeing Top Gun. Extremely entertaining - action sequences were masterful, albeit preposterous. But with everyone calling it a “great” movie, I feel like I’m missing something. Characters are shallow, dialogue is cringey, plot feels recycled and contrived at the same time. But boy is it fun to watch.

I think the emotion of it - particularly after the 30 year layoff, and being the first movie for older folks to lure them back into theaters, probably just made people feel young again. It hit the expected plot points, but felt deeper than that. Maybe, similar to the way Newman finally won his Oscar for Color of Money, which also wasn't that great of a film.

And what the hell is this? You complete filming on a movie, just need to do post-production, and you cancel a movie? Write off $80m? Not even pushing out to HBO Max to save on the distribution costs? Weird. These new Warner Media people are stacking bodies in Hollywood.

When I glanced at the headline, I assumed they got a few steps into starting the movie and then decided to scrap it. Then I saw it's basically done -- why not recoup some of the cost? Even if you did zero marketing and put it out, there's enough superhero people in some form that would see it.

Morbius was terrible and it made 73.6M domestic and 163.9 worldwide. This can't be that bad

When movies are produced, then tested (and test poorly with audiences) studios have been known to bury it in the late Jan/Feb. window, maybe a limited release - if truly bad, they go direct to DVD. But yeah, I've never heard of a movie that was completed and then totally buried (except for that Jerry Lewis movie). Saving $20m? You can't even "write it off" if it isn't released right?

Well, I started a general movie news thread to avoid doing this, but it's completely appropriate here, so what the hell.
