I've been in prison a few times (for stories, of course) and they are pretty clear about dress code, shoes, what you can carry in. But you do wonder if it just came down to one person's judgement. Most execution chambers are separated from the blocks so it isn't like she would be strolling down Broadway and getting the prisoners excited.

The thread title made me think it was dressing requirements as the prisoner, not a reporter.

I suppose there’s a dress code for the prisoner too.

I understand the sexism angle on this story, but why would you ever put yourself in a position to have the prison dress code enforced by a cop/guard/trusty/administrator?

If the prisoner refused to obey the dress code, what are they going to do? Kill him?

Was not a good idea to wear them when covering the Buccaneers during the John McKay era.

Not sure that tracks as the logical endpoint for the argument. The reporter in this case has 4th Amendment protections in addition to First Amendment protections.

If the prison dress code for execution witnesses is onerous, she and her employer can lobby or sue to have it changed.

In the meantime, prison visitors are already subject to questionable invasive search.
