No, but the window is limited. They have a ton of money committed to relatively few players, even less if they lock up Soto long-term.

Wouldn't it be great if Hosmer told everybody to go fuck themselves and scuttled the whole thing? :)

Like Hosmer and Darvish and Machado?

NL West just got interesting like it has been the last few years with two teams that look good and everyone else is either a poser (Padres last year and Giants this year) or straight trash. And in the end, it comes down to a team having a miracle season to hold off the Dodgers who have won the division every year since 2013 with one exception.

So Hosmer won't accept a trade to Washington?

Why would Soto/Boras do anything but become a free agent? Is SD going to offer 10/500? SD gets him for the rest of thi year, all of next year and they can trade him at the deadline in 2024 and recoup some of what they gave up.

I was mostly kidding. I would have been very surprised if the deal had actually fallen through over Hosmer. My understanding was that the Nationals didn't really want him. The Padres were trying to include him to unload his contract, so maybe he ends up elsewhere or maybe they just have to deal with being well over the luxury tax threshold.

Who's taking an overpaid, slo-footed, doubles hitter? Sorry, he was a huge part of a WS winning team and appears to be a great guy. Are the Thunder/Jazz/Rockets open to taking him into their cap space??

I'm guessing they would have to give up something of value along with him to get another team to take Hosmer.

Hosmer was in the deal at one point, but he exercised his no-trade clause.

While I understand optimism is running high for the "new Ted Williams," it's probably worth remembering that the old Ted Williams never won a World Series.
