An accurate comparison, IMO. But the horror of Franchy Cordero is finally over. If the Sox hadn't dumped him, one of my golf foursome was headed straight for an aneurysm by Labor Day.

The Royals didn't need slugging as much as guys making contact during that run. In 2018, I was perfectly fine with him taking the Padres' offer because the Royals were signaling full rebuild. Kansas City was in a weird space as the Royals should have dealt everyone after 2015, Marlins-style, but the lure of cashing in (attendance, sponsorships, concessions, etc.) was too much. 31,500 fans/game in 2016, 27,000/game in 2017. But once Cain, Moustakas, Hosmer and Escobar left after 2017, attendance fell faster than the wins. It's a Chiefs' town again.

Hosmer's value came in his defense and making contact but also his leadership. On a young team that was at a "B/A-" level (2014/2015), Hosmer was the vocal leader. But in San Diego, he's just another one of the guys.

For all of us who aren’t Red Sox fans, this is a sad day.

It was like one of those Bloopers and Practical jokes VHS tapes on a nightly basis.

Brandon Drury hits a grand slam in his first Padres plate appearance.
Meanwhile the players on the other side of the transaction don’t seem particularly eager to join the Washington Baseball Team. No #Natitude.

Proven production that will not be there when you are ready to contend. It makes no sense to keep players so you can win 71 instead of 73 games.

The Soto deal, and the attendant overheated sports writing, kinda makes a fella wonder what the actual Ted Williams would be worth these days.

Only current player in his Top 10 Similarity Score on Baseball Reference is Miguel Cabrera. You’d have to put him into that contract tier, right?

Essentially isn’t that what the Dolphins were just punished for doing?

The Yankees trading of Montgomery seems so weird, especially for adding another outfielder where its already crowded. Just speculation, but maybe it means they don’t think Stanton is coming back any time soon? Or maybe they just don’t want Judge playing center anymore?
