That's pretty common in broadcasting. Aside from Dan Rather, I can't immediately think of national nightly news broadcasters who have a regional accent. And I'm guessing Rather suppressed the Texas in his voice.

That goes both ways. If I hear a New York or Boston accent, I immediately deduct IQ points.
Just because I talk slow, doesn't mean I am slow.

And then released it on Election Night 2000 like a swarm of fireflies from a Mason jar.

Tennessee is a state that has elected many distinguished public officials. For example, Cordell Hull, FDR's Secretary of State was from Tennessee.

I was born in 1957 so in my lifetime Al Gore, Sr., Al Gore, Jr. and Howard Baker were long serving senators from the state. I don't think any other state can claim three such outstanding senators in that period.

Now the state sends Marsha Blackburn to Washington. Can I gently ask what the hell happened?

I hear you. My twang really came out amid pandemic. When my kid imitates it I know it's bad.
Read something on this but can't remember where - that lengthy isolation auto-returned us to our more natural and relaxed patterns of speech.
