7991 from the tips. Big number but doesn’t play nearly that long.
I remember the first time I played down at the AFA Courses in Colo. Spgs. You have no idea how far the ball flies at altitude. It just keeps going……and going……
You’ll always remember the first time you hit a 240-yard 5 iron.

And yet a 200-yard par-3 in Florida can kick my ass because sea level and high humidity combines to kill my distance.

If everybody who missed the cut faced possible decapitation outside the clubhouse on Friday evenings, it might improve the ratings. And level of play.

This week played the Bay and Pines courses at Seaview near Atlantic City, where Sam Snead won the 1942 PGA, his first major, and an LPGA Tour stop today. A good number of the holes have been preserved as Hugh Wilson and Donald Ross designed them a hundred years ago, including the Pines 16th, the par three where Snead chipped in from 60 feet to win. An extra thrill just to play where legendary men and women played.

Another week goes by where I am disappointed Patrick Cantlay is not sponsored by Virgin Airlines.

When’s the last time the PGA Tour had a season with no Chicago or Boston tournaments?

Brings new meaning to the phrase “missing the cut.”

US Open was at Boston this year, at the Country Club. The TPC Norton course (a boring track) is in the BMW rotation, but this was a fine year to skip it.

It’s on my list for those reasons. That and the fact it’s not expensive. Maybe in October when I’m down there for work.

TPC Norton was at the tail end of the Barclays rotation. BMW hasn't gone farther east that Philly. And will be in Chicago only once from now through 2026.
