No, but. But the word in the fairway is that Matsuyama's jumping soon, maybe right after the Presidents Cup, for $400 million. And a few others may be jumping as well.

Also play Atlantic City Country Club if you have the chance. It oozes history.

Monahan comes out with a plan to keep the Tour elite home; asking the stars to play 20 tournaments, a dozen of which will have $20-$25 million purses. So Kapalua, Riviera, Bay Hill, Memorial, Match Play, the Players, up to 3 playoff events, four more "rotating elevated" events and three more events of a player's choosing. Plus the majors. The rotating events are intriguing -- will the Tour finally hook up the John Deere, Hilton Head, Valspar with all the big boys once in a while? Gotta think a lot of sponsors have been howling in the last few months.

Also announced is a guaranteed $500,000 for exempt players, against earnings. So if you win more you don't get that on top of it, but if you win less, the Tour will raise you up to $500k. Interesting since the mantra forever has been "you'll get nothing and like it" if you play poorly.

Also, $5,000 for travel expenses if you miss the cut. Don't know if that's included in the $500,000.

Plus you get to qualify for 4 majors and the team event AND DONT HAVE TO LAT LIV and labeled a traitor!

That's for non-exempt players. Monahan went all Oprah today: And you get an expense check! And YOU get an expense check!

Look, he had to. Because there are more defections likely coming Sunday night/Monday morning.

They're definitely coming, but the expense checks don't matter to the LIV class especially when they're getting eight figures or more up front. This was Monahan throwing bones to the rest of the tour while he knows full well the whole operation rests on not losing many more big names.

Almost everything Monahan put forward today was a topic of the big-name players meeting last Wednesday in the Hotel DuPont. The one variance is the Tour staying with its 501c6 status rather than going for-profit. Throw in the Woods-McIlroy team deal on some Monday nights in 2024, and the Tour matches LIV in the meaningless team golf department, only in a separate one-night showcase. Extra money for the needy, no doubt.

I remember sitting in a press room many years ago, listening to a press conference by Jug McSpaden. He'd talk about life as a tour professional back in the '40s and '50s, and at a moment's notice he'd rattle off the details of getting from the West Coast to the East. "It was xxx miles from Palm Springs to San Diego, then xxx miles to El Paso, then xxx miles to New Orleans. We'd drive and we'd always stay at this little motel in _____ because it was owned by the daughter of a player . . . "

It's a far cry from today's world of private jets and $99 player room rates at the Ritz.
