A bit glib and over-simplistic, don't you think? Not the sick burn you want it to be. Not to mention that it's impossible for any policy to be 100 percent fair to every single person. Yet conservatives who love to say "life isn't fair" in response to any effort to address historic injustice toward particular groups never fail to use "100 percent fairness:" as a benchmark for any policy that may help those who are historically disempowered (10k loan forgiveness; considering membership in a historically disadvantaged group as ONE FACTOR in an otherwise qualified student's application package).

I was merely responding to your "Besides, maybe the little white girl['s parents] ..." hypothetical.

Fair enough. But life isn't fair. ;)

There’s 2 basic Choices; ignore the Constitution and the requirement that all people are equal before the law and in public accommodations and such. Or say that black people in this country were fucked from day 1 until now. And while you are white, Hispanic, Asian, immigrant, Jew, Hindu, Buddhist… anything but descended from American slavery you had nothing to do with causing, you benefited from it, your parents and grandparents benefited from it. Without regard to being being poor whites from Appalachia and 5th generation working on a farm or ranch west of the Mississippi, your kids are not going to get a equal treatment in Housing, education, jobs and health care until racism is eradicated. If your Children’s children don’t get equal opportunities , tough. It’s not fair, but it’s the only way to go forward.

either be Colorblind or be honest. But it’s bullshit to say there are no innocent losers in affirmative action. We got Clarence Thomas and Raphael Cruz via affirmative action. Defund that

"Whataboutism" taken to a new level. Pay no attention to the eight hearings on Benghazi while you're at it.

You know affirmative action in the education setting is/was much different than affirmative action in contracting, etc. I helped administer the programs for my university and law school.

In affirmative action then, you looked beyond GPA and SAT/LSAT scores to see if a candidate was worthy. See, if a white/Asian/other student grew up in an affluent suburb and got a 4.0/1600 but never worked a day in his/her life, is that necessarily "better" than the child of an immigrant who worked 25 hrs + at a min wage job, helped raise 3 siblings, and "only" got a 3.85 and 1400? No that wasn't picking the "lesser" candidate. It was giving credit for non-traditional factors that gave more context to the admission standards. And by the way, there was affirmative action for whites too.
