    Imagine how many lawyers Trump has exasperated, stiffed, lied to, humiliated, etc. Even then I'd think he would have been able to find a lawyer with some cred who would love the opportunity to defend the first President charged with seditious treason, espionage etc. Shoot, couldn't Assange or Snowden hook him up?

    What he needs is one of a small group of established, white-shoe law firms to be all in.

    Those firms want the prestige of defending a former president, but not because it is going to put them on the map. They don't need him. Ff it wasn't Trump, they'd want to be representing a former president as a show of them having been chosen instead of one of the other white-shoe firms.

    But none of those firms will even take his phone calls. The presidency itself has cachet. Donald Trump doesn't. From their perspective, he is going to stiff them financially, bring bad publicity to their firm and sully their reputation, and he's not going to actually take their advice or do what they tell him to do.

    He's wrong. Hubris and authoritarian impulses to price fix things and destroy price signals in order to enable politicians who could give a fuck about the longer-term consequences of what they do, isn't limited to one racial or ethnic group, or a particular sexual orientation. You just need a PhD from Princeton, a medieval understanding of cause and effect and an arrogant certainty that you know what everyone needs better than they know it for themselves.
