The water in my town -- a leafy enclave in north Jersey -- is officially undrinkable due to the presence of cancer-causing PFAS forever chemicals that exceed the state limit as of October 2021. Town officials, who notified residents with an unsigned letter and should be referred for criminal investigation, say it could be four years before the water system is properly upgraded and the water is safe to drink.

 

This is from March (when the city also had a water works crisis caused by the same deep freeze that knocked out Texas’ power grid) but it is an excellent explanation of the dynamics at play and the dog whistles used against the local government.

I'm shocked.

 

WH now officially calling MAGA a threat to rule of law.

 

Flint was a terrible education in moral and ethical inertia as expressed by party politics.

How many kids did we condemn to brain damage because no one wanted responsibility for the pipes?

These kind of problems - in Mississippi or Michigan - require immediate, nonpartisan action.

 

I went back and read Dixiehack's post. What good is local control if the state bleeds you dry because you're run by coloreds?

 

How many of these water systems remain private utilities? We have one or two up here.

Of course it won't air on Fox. I wonder how he's going to package/present this. It's kind of a waste of everyone's time. Exactly zero people will change their minds because of it.

 

You bring in the guy who put together a streaming service that went tits-up in 30 days to right the ship? NBC's screwed.

 

That's simply not true. Not everyone has made up their minds yet (unless you're coming at it from the narrow metric of "changing your mind"). What about making up your mind? Not everyone's paying attention. You're coming at this from your perspective as someone who pays attention to politics and the news. The Jan. 6 primetime hearings seemed to indicate that actually telling people this stuff -- ie, saying it out loud -- is important.

What's most important is that we keep education out of our schools.
