Interesting (and long) look back at the 1991 PGA Championship at Shoal Creek.

I'd forgotten how specific Thompson was with his stance and statements. If I remember correctly, the reporter taped it so the "misquoted me" angle was wrong. But it's been 30 years and I don't recall if she did.

PGA called Nicklaus to see if Muirfield could host the tournament on short notice and he agreed, but then changed his mind after Thompson learned he said yes.

Hell of a story. And Thompson probably adored the Orange Cheeto. I hope Hall gets kicked in the gonads every hour in Hell.

So Nicklaus had no moral compass from way back, not just with LIV. Also in the story, Woodcrest CC is in Cherry Hill, NJ, not Hills.

    That was my takeaway, too.

Played two straight days on courses with spongy Bermuda rough. My forearms are more sore than I was when I was a teenager just discovering porn.

Dustin Johnson won the LIV tournament near Boston in a three-way playoff with Joaquin Niemann and Anirban Lahiri, sinking a 35-foot eagle putt on the first sudden-death hole. His team won as well, so $4.75 million into his account. Pretty exciting last two hours, and a hype-free telecast for a change.

I wouldn't quite call it hype-free but yes, good stuff. Almost a four-man playoff, Westwood shot 62 but needed one more.

But this league can't get out of its own way ... on the playoff hole, Niemann blows his tee shot offline toward the woods but it hits an older man in the chest. The lousy on-course reporter interviews him, he's wearing a hat with sunglasses on the brim, only to take them off to reveal TRUMP.

Interesting he said he wanted the PGA Tour and LIV to get together.

Smith was a shot out of the playoff as well. It was the type of finish LIV needs to gain traction.

But another reason why a TV deal is a must. Maybe the best finish they'll have all season, up against virtually nothing else on the sports calendar.

My complaint is that AP ran the agate without any acknowledgement of the cooked-in scores. After the first round all the stories say "Scheffler leads at 15-under." Meanwhile, the agate shows Scheffler in third at 5-under."

To stay in line with the other sports, they should have just had Scheffler start on Hole No. 2. He gets a bye on the first hole. :)

RIP Herb Kohler. If you haven't already, save some shekels and get to Kohler, Wisconsin, for a stay at the American Club and a couple rounds.
