Since I’ve been playing tennis with my son and WTA is in SJ, decided to go see tourney and got tickets for tonight. Lucked into CoCo v Osaka! That was unexpected. Last pro match I saw was Gabby Sabatini in SF. Hope it’s a tight match.

If you enjoy tennis and get a chance to see it live go see it; CoCo dismantled Osaka and it was amazing. CoCo hits it sooo flat and hard and combines it with phenomenal footwork. Osaka has that as well but CoCo was the cleaner hitter tonight plus a huge serve. Great win 6-4, 6-4 for CoCo. I won’t forget this (front row in a small 2500 crowd sold out too).

Sitting behind the baselines gives a much better perspective on the spin they put on the ball.

Sorry, Oh that’s where I was, first row baseline.

So Medvedev -- still the No. 1-ranked player -- finally got his first tournament championship of the year. He beat Cameron Norrie 7-5, 6-0 to win the U.S. Open tune-up event in Mexico. Before that match, he had lost his previous five tournament finals, and this year, he hadn't been getting that far very often. But now it's hard court season and Medvedev seems healthy, so maybe he'll be dangerous again in NYC.

Meanwhile, Kyrgios won his first tournament title of the year today, beating 96th-ranked Yoshihito Nishioka to win the Washington tournament.

Edit: Just looked at the draw for the Rogers Cup (or whatever it's called now) and Medvedev and Kyrgios are set to meet in the second round. That could be interesting.

And not shocking, when I was channel surfing, I saw Kyrgios bitching at the chair umpire.

It's been a wild week in Canuckistan. Top three men's seeds -- Medvedev, Alcaraz and Tsitsipas -- all lost their first match (Tsitsipas got beat by someone named Jack Draper). Up-and-coming star Sinner lost to Carreno Busta. Ruud destroyed Auger-Aliassime, then lost to Hurkacz in the semis.

On the women's side, Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, who's had a good year with a couple of tournament titles and has risen to 24th in the rankings, took out Swiatek and is playing in the final right now against Halep, who beat Gauff and Pegula and will move into the top 10 next week.

Too bad that tournament changes names more often than the Lipton International Players Championship-Ericsson Open-Nasdaq 100 Open-Sony Ericsson Open-Miami Open.

That was an epic day yesterday at Flushing Meadow capped by Cilic v Alcaraz. That youngster just might win it; or maybe Tiafoe finally breaks through.

I'm for whoever is playing against Kyrgios. No rooting interest beyond that.

Surprised they're putting Tiafoe as the afternoon match tomorrow, seeing as he's the only American man left. Although on paper Alcaraz-Sinner could be a sizzler.

U.S. Open nightmare: Rublev-Khachanov in an all-Russian final, the day after Belarusian Sabalenka wins the women's title.
