My wife is English, but all we seemed to wonder about was: Why did she carry a purse? What could she possibly need to carry that an aid couldn't give her in 2 seconds?

(My wife’s collection of purses forms an avalanche and buries me as I read this)

One frequently quoted anecdote is that the purse would often be used as a signaling device. If she picked it up and put it on the table (or switched arms or something), that was a sign to the staff to get her the hell out of there.

One thing that crossed my mind is I wonder if a bulb of garlic will cross the threshold of the kitchen. It was banned under Liz for fear of offending breath.

So...500 pounds, maybe 600 with the Queen, divided by 10? Seriously, shouldn't be too hard.

Just watched the king's address. Well done. I cannot imagine how difficult it would be for your first act as king to go on TV worldwide to thank your mother as you're grieving her loss.

I might be engaged in a little too much royal deference, but the pauses, choreographed as they might have been, were effective to make it sound less like something being read.

Scotland was in mid to high 50s when we were there with occasional rain, like when we toured Edinburgh Castle. We needed jackets and jeans but it was perfect walking weather.

In the early days, a sanitary napkin. But I like the idea of it being a signal.
