This is my thesis based on anecdotes. But why not?

In 2021 I took a seven week road trip from the East Coast to LA and back. This was my first trip post pandemic. I was shocked to learn that I would not receive maid service daily, even in a Hyatt. I asked the guy in LA Hyatt where all the maids went. He said that as they reopened they called the maids who had been on staff and they were not there.

Remember, during the pandemic the population in California declined by 500,000 people. It was not just LA. In Denver County population declined by two percent.

My thesis is that when the pandemic hit the undocumented workers who worked in service industries could not make tent and went home. They did not receive rebate checks or unemployment. So they went home. Now that McDonald's is paying $15 an hour the people making $300 a month in Central America are trying to get back.
