Recruiting rankings are hype and bullshit peddled by hucksters. Tennessee and Texas have had top 15 classes for a decade and haven’t sniffed anything worth a damn in years.

I’d argue recruiting ratings are pretty indicative of success and Tennessee and Texas have had bad coaches.

Alabama, Ohio State and Georgia have damn sure figured out how to win with all those top five recruiting classes. But talent with no coaching instruction and/or foundation is just a bunch of guys running around.

All I know is Texas Tech is still in the top 20, so that is supposed to mean something

In the mid 2000's Notre Dame had a top ten recruiting class every year and they managed to suck balls.

Star-counting is good business for several outlets and the reporters who bolster them. While there is a strong correlation between star totals and national champs, recruiting rankings don’t guarantee pursuit of glory. ATM has had 4 straight top-10 classes and can’t do better than 8-4.

Maybe, but don’t forget Vols can finish 12th in recruiting overall but 7th in the league. It just means more.

Can anyone tell me what Black Zook has done with all those croots? Other then sell a lot of subscriptions for Blue and White Illustrated.

A lot of Coug fans last year were underwhelmed about Dickert being promoted, but my hunch is a good deal of that came from Rolovich supporters who were upset about the canning and would have been upset with anyone not named Rolovich being given the job. Dickert has brought some much needed stability to the program. I was worried after the near-loss to Idaho, but beating Wisconsin on the road as a 17-point underdog was pretty impressive.

Alvin Kamara coming to Tennessee helped that class' ranking.

The coaches playing him off the bench nullified that ranking.

Nebraska was pretty warm on Houston Nutt in his heyday. They sent a plane to Fayetteville after they fired Solich and Nutt turned them down.
