I’m telling y’all, she may have made a poor choice expressing herself like this but that doesn’t automatically make her wrong.

The summer after HS and before Mizzou, I spent the days framing apartment buildings and then scooted over to Overton High School for a summer class in typing. I was hot, sweaty, covered in sawdust and didn't want to be there but u set ur mind too it and u just get it done, amirite? To echo Cosmo, it was the best 50-minutes, 3x a week for 2 months I ever invested in myself.

Dunking on the gingham bigfoot is a little too easy.

Still, I'd be curious to know how she feels about all this work and ambition and achievement 40 years from now.

Did we work at the same paper? Except we bowed to Mary Junck, not Dean.

Will join the chorus of those fondly recalling their typing classes. I was already pretty good at typing for a high school kid in the late '80s b/c I typed a bunch of short stories and what not on the family typewriter. First semester of typing, I only got Cs b/c we were on actual typewriters and I was being graded on my mistakes. Second semester, I got much higher grades (might have even been A's) b/c we were on computers and saving our work on floppy disks--5 1/4-inchers!!!--and I was both typing fast and able to go back and correct my mistakes. It's occasionally fun to impress my wife and daughter by accurately typing the contents of our conversation without even looking at the keyboard.

Were there any hiccups getting Social Security started? I might be looking to draw my first check in April or May of next year.

One other very trivial point: Is that chick wearing hose with shorts?

That's on the guidance counselor for not telling her how to dress at her first Cowboys game.

I think it’s easy, in your 20s, to convince yourself that if you do EVERYTHING your boss in sports media wants, you’ll be rewarded later on.

Maybe you will but, in my experience… nope. Sure, I got promoted five times in TV news but I never got more than 4.5% raise. However, jumping stations got me 50% comp increases each time — and these were good moves, financially.

Seek out opportunity to get better and build your skill set. Try to hold off working extra to do the bullshit work. The power dynamic is different now — bosses in news don’t want to fire people now because it’s nearly impossible to find a good replacement.

You know, I'm going to have to find that list of jobs that do love you back. It would make life a lot easier for, oh, a few hundred million people.
