No. Just some columnist throwing sh&& against the wall and hoping it will stick. They are working with the city to sign a 30-year lease extension.

It doesn't change the dynamic within the division for the title, because you still have equal numbers of games. But it may have a bearing on the wild card.

For example, the Rays' strength of schedule according to Fangraphs is .547 and the Orioles .545. Compare that to the Mariners, who had the easiest schedule at .432, because they get 57 games with the likes of the A's, Rangers and Angels. Is Seattle's schedule alone worth five extra wins? I don't know, but it's definitely something that MLB has changed for 2023.

Of course, losing nine consecutive games to the Tigers certainly hasn't helped Baltimore's case. But that's just dumb luck.

It's obvious there's no way to completely balance the schedule, but making cross-division and interleague schedules the same for all 30 teams has to help some. And 24 fewer games with the AL East in favor of teams that aren't as strong should be more beneficial to the O's and Rays.

It only takes one team willing to offer some insane contract that the Yankees might choose not to beat. I'm certain he isn't going to give them a discount and George Steinbrenner is long gone.

No. The son who's going to remain in charge has unequivocally said the team's not moving. There is no actual evidence of action toward Nashville. Speculation based on the fact that the son who is suing his mother and brother lives there. Remember that as bad as the Orioles were from 2018-21 and that they have seldom made the playoffs since the opening of Camden Yards, the park is a jewel and there's considerable value in having a team there. Any move has to be approved by a supermajority of owners, and I doubt they'd go along in sufficient numbers.

And it's just the right thing to do when you have as many wild cards as division champions in the playoffs.

I 100 percent agree with what you’re saying. But no amount they give Judge would preclude them from doing anything else, if they want to do it.

You’re right. I wasn’t considering it in terms of comparing their outcome to that of other wild card contenders.

Hell, the Pirates technically could pay somebody $30 million a year. Their owner has the money. Teams have their limits. The Yankees prefer theirs to be at or below the luxury tax threshold.

Yankee fans still remember Jay Buhner for Ken Phelps. If Judge ends up with another team next year, there’s not a Steinbrenner who will be allowed in New York and the Stadium may be destroyed from the inside out. And if they sign Judge but don’t sign another big time FA, the same result might happen. Hal and Cashman played chicken and lost, staying under the luxtax is not an option
