This 1970s-era running back had several mediocre years, but he also had three seasons in which he gained between 995 to 1,002 yards rushing in each season. Who was he?

 

Sounds like Dave Hampton. Who also could be the answer to who is the only nfl player to rush for 1,000 yards in a season, but then not.

 

Name the two mlb teams that did not have a position player voted to an all-star team during the 1980s.

 

Seattle and Toronto?

 

Seattle is one.

George Bell started in 1987. Dave steib also started two, but not counting him since I’m only looking for position players.

 

San Francisco, maybe?

 

Yep, it’s Dave. He ran for 995 in 1972, 997 the next year and, 1,002 in 1975.

Such a weird stretch.

 

Cleveland Indians?

 

They came close. Manny Trillo started in the 1983 game for the tribe. He was batting .300 at the end of May, which I assume pushed his voting totals. He ended up at .270 and was playing for the Expos by mid August.

 

Kevin Mitchell and Will Clark made some late in the decade starts to end their streak of no all star game starters.

 

White Sox?

 

He also had some name recognition as one of the best defensive second basemen of that era, which probably helped.
