I know he did radio for the Atlanta Thrashers their first season. I've heard his play-by-play sounded like he was doing his show.

No idea who it was, but while I was driving around Saturday afternoon whoever was on the CBS Sports Radio show was wondering how the Nets' team chemistry would sort itself out. On a college football Saturday and an NFL weekend, in the middle of an MLB pennant race and with Pujols and Judge to talk about. When the NBA preseason doesn't even start for another two weeks.
And he wrapped it up by saying something like, "All of these other sports are great, but the personal drama in the NBA is just the best thing going."
I wanted to reach through my radio and beat him with a hammer.

He should be fired but even the CBS Sports Radio executives probably aren't listening on a Saturday afternoon in football season.

Your mistake here, of course, was listening to talk radio.

My 12-year-old TV decided it was time to retire to a farm upstate. I had to go get a new one, and was trying to find some scores whilst out and about.

Dang, I hadn't thought about her in about the same amount of time as the One on One Sports Flash.

Sports Fan Radio/ESPN, according to Wikipedia.

My first time hearing him was at the tail end of a long day of travel from North Georgi to South Georgia and back again, only on the way back it was driving a moving truck with all my worldly possessions on I-285 and not being able to adjust my mirrors properly. And I had a three-week-old baby at home with all the shitty sleep that implies. By the time he got to intermission I was shaking like an addict with DTs.

It's not sports radio, but this is huge news in the industry.
KGO host talks about Bay Area radio station's abrupt signoff

Apparently its going all-CBS Sports, with various paid-for gambling tip shows sprinkled through the day and going to be referred to as The Spread. What a wastes of a 50,000 watt blowtorch.

Grew up listening to this station, learned a lot about a lot of different things - back when talk radio was live and local and not generally conservative. Hosts had guests from all walks of life, politics, entertainment, authors, businesspeople, - people talked about the news of the day - it really brought a sense of community to the craziness that can be the Bay Area. And the station was dominant from the late 70s I think to the mid-90s at least. Flagship of Cal sports, former home of the pre-LA Raiders. The die was cast when they cut three longtime hosts loose about 15 years ago and its been a dive ever since. Really can't say enough about KGO - it was group therapy for a region following Jonestown, the Milk/Moscone murders, Loma Prieta and various other events.

Geez man, I've been betting on games with point spreads since I was a kid, but the gambling takeover is really insidious. I heard a minute of Dan Patrick's show yesterday morning, and he is talking about the point spread for the Thursday Night game. And then alludes to a show, "Dan talks spreads" or some nonsense.

You can't listen to sports talk without being infected.

Just like on all the betting commercials, there needs to be a disclaimer for all the talking heads: "Virtually none of these people know what they're talking about, please bet responsibly."

Had a few former co-workers and mentors axed in that purge. If you were a news reporter, KCBS, KNBR and KGO were the pinnacle of Bay Area radio jobs. And KFRC's news team was no slouch back in the day, either. Terrestrial radio is on life support and barely breathing.
