2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season Running Thread

Punta Gorda going to get flattened for the second time in 18 years. So many mobile homes around there. Just going to be complete and utter destruction in the next 48 hours.

EDIT: Just seeing satellite images this morning. Very tight eyewall and NHC said it went through a strengthening cycle overnight. There is some shear, but not enough to take any of the punch out of it. It's still going to have 90 mph sustained by the time it reaches I-4.

If you like tracking these things, there is an app I use called Windy that is really good.
I have the Hurricane Tracker app that has all the details, but Windy is good to show ... well, the wind.

 

Force Thirteen is live on YouTube. That's my go-to for weather nerds who are almost as knowledgeable on this stuff as the NHC.

The first radar images are extremely ugly. Cape Coral, Port Charlotte and Venice are in for a huge hit.

Just shy of a Cat 5 right now. 155 mph winds.

 

I have that one (I'm into sailing ... go figure). It's pretty cool to see those intense winds around the center and then, not really so far away, just ... wind.

 

I'll check it out. One guy I watch on there is named Ryan Hall. He seems pretty knowledgeable.
