Coincidentally, Maris had 39 homers in 1960.

Though I found a list of pitchers Maris homered off of in '61, I was looking for a total number of different pitchers faced for the season. There were only nine other teams in the AL in '61, compared to facing the pitching of 20 different teams this year - not to mention the more frequent use of the bullpen now. And Judge is 20 clear of the second best HR hitter? Crazy. (he better be clean - the contract year spike is awfully fotuitous).

    What’s your argument?

That refs and umps are flawed humans, who enforce calls inconsistently?

    If so, I agree.

If MLB wants stolen bases because it makes the game more exciting for fans, start by enforcing the rules for pitchers working from the stretch.

Went to my first game of the season last night, Dodgers v. Padres.
3 1/2 hours in no one had scored so we were rewarded with free baseball.
I had not been a fan of the ghost runner in extras but I sure as hell welcomed it last night.

Oh, great. I can see on social media we're going to be dredging up McGwire/Sosa/Bonds all week.

All all of the clutching pearls is such a farce. They were great for the game and everyone loved them ... well McGwire and Sosa anyway ... but then everyone agreed roids = bad and all of a sudden the records they cheered for are not legit. McGwire's 70 saved the game of baseball after the strike. Roids gave people a reason to cheer and watch. Do we need to put qualifiers on the records from the era? Absolutely. Should we scrub the books or pretend we we were against it all along? Miss me with that.

And none of that takes away from what Judge is doing that is quite remarkable given how difficult it is to hit home runs any more (people can miss me with the ball jumping out of the yard over the last 10 years because even then, almost no one had 50 home run seasons.)

But people need to need to hot take. I don't have the time or actual will to do it, but I am curious if there is video out there of Buster Olney gushing over McGwire and Sosa or even Bonds during the time. Guy sure wants to bury all of it now.

(Thanks for coming to my TED Talk)

Maris' kid is entitled to his wrong opinion.

He might be one of the few I don't fault for that.

Yet another marriage thrown asunder by the New York Yankees.

As long as he keeps getting free front row seats, might as well milk it
