    Freaking gas is up 80 cents a gallon in the last 3-4 days. Supposedly refinery problems are causing shortfalls. Yeah, right.

    Maybe they can just dump everything in the strategic petroleum reserve onto the market to keep trying to fool the public? They've already brought it down to four decade lows.

    The hurricane in the Gulf shouldn't have a measurable difference on gas prices. It was 500-750 from the refineries on the western side.

    Believe it or not, it hasn't been the hurricane. These are West Coast (and I think midwestern, too) refineries. Every few yeras they have to do maintenance and go through inspections, and they aim for this time of the year because demand drops off after labor day. Just as they went offline, there was a fire at a SoCal refinery.

    All things being equal (if nothing else happens to change the supply / demand dynamics), we could get relief around November, because the winter blend they are allowed to sell is cheaper to produce.

    We'll see.
