    You hit the nail on the head at the end. Bulletproof cars are a wonderful thing, but this isn’t a video game. Drivers of old knew there were limits to what you could and couldn’t do, and for the most part, they didn’t intentionally cross the line. They didn’t want to die.

    The things have three pedals for a reason. The drivers need to use their damn heads. As you said, nobody gets killed in a video game.

    Absolutely, and that filters down to the fans. To anyone under 30, Nascar might as well be a video game. Torn up cars? Hit the reset button and keep going. Young fans didn't know how it felt to lose Earnhardt. No one wants to see another death, but it would almost make Nascar feel "real" again in a sense. I hope that doesn't sound crass, but I know racers are cheating death at the Isle of Man TT, sticking it into a turn at 230 at Indy or running the quarter-mile, er, 1000 feet in a Funny Car. The feeling in stock cars, even at Talladega, just isn't that extreme anymore.

    Drivers of old were somehow kissed by God at birth and given a little bit more talent and a little bit bigger sack than the rest of us. They were knights of the road. They were able to push the edge of the envelope and bring it back.
    Today’s are just kids whose dads paid for them a ride in an indestructible go-kart.

    He climbed out before the truck even stopped. I didn't see where the onboard fire extinguisher helped. I'm guessing burns or smoke inhalation. All the best for him.

    Having said that, best to everyone involved. And no ... not in the "thoughts and prayers" tone following a mass shooting.
