Chris Davis's contract ended this year. They aren't paying him any more unless they deferred a bunch of money.

And he's fully pensioned. Happy for him.

    EDIT: Vogt, that is.

I'd rather see a guy like Suzuki or Vogt go out with a little fanfare than Rivera or Chipper Jones be gifted pricey swag at every stop of their 'retirement tour'

What transpired with that family that the Orioles went from a team that spent on free agents -- in 1998, they had the highest payroll -- to now?

The contract they gave Davis indicates otherwise. You claimed that his contract was one reason they couldn't spend more on free agents. It isn't. It is an excuse used by ownership to keep the payroll down.

They have built a strong core. This is the time when a team should spend to fill in some of the gaps.

They had a higher payroll in 1998 than they did in 2022.

But why is that? You an O's fan? Weird for a team to how such a wild swing in its financial investments and not sell the team.

Peter Angelos was not 93 years old in 1998 and liked to spend on the club. That's one problem.

    Mets won 101 games.

Would've been bigger news if Hunter Biden wasn't going Attica.

From everything I'm hearing the Orioles will try to fill the gaps in the rotation with at least some adult pitchers. They're not going to go out and sign the biggest free agent on the market, but they understand that they recaptured the fan base with this season and they'll need to fill some holes. They also still have several high-level prospects yet to dent the big club, so there's that consideration. The biggest offseason priorities should be one or two legit starting pitchers to bolster a rotation that probably punched above its weight this year, and add a couple of bats in the infield so you're not trotting out .180 hitters like Odor on the reg. You don't have to break the bank to make those moves.

We’ll see. Management says they’ll be players in free agency.
