I have decades of conditioning in which things like that utterly bizarre Phillies rally happened TO them, not BY them. I don't know what to think.

The Blue Jays-Mariners announcer just referenced the 1964 Phillies team that blew the pennant. That was 58 years and two stadiums ago. I don't think anybody on this year's team could name a single player from the 1964 Phillies team. That's like linking Fred Snodgrass to Bobby Richardson picking off Willie McCovey's liner and then to Pablo Sandoval hitting homers off Verlander.

History is like Twitter. Only a few people really give a damn and none of it really makes much of a difference, unless you're on Jeopardy.

No affinity for the Phillies but life is always better when the Cardinals lose.

I've probably told this here before, but I was working as an usher at Dodger Stadium that night (I'm pretty sure that's me on the second stairwell in the white shirt with arms raised) and my biggest memory outside of the home run was noticing how many people were leaving during a one-run World Series game on a Saturday night. One of the documentaries I've seen interviewed Tom Werner and his kid, who were among those who left early.

Well, we figured out how to get 2 hour, 15-minute games back. Strike zones the size of the 1995 World Series.

Somewhere, Eric Gregg is grinning (and calling somebody out on a pitch just inside the batting circle).
