There was an entire Adult Swim series called Morel Orel that was in that same vein, right down to the stop motion animation.

When I was growing up in the early 80s, I loved me some pro wrestling and roller derby, and didn’t catch on right away to the kayfabe. With wrestling I always was a sucker for any face they put over, but I could never warm up to the T-Birds, even though that’s plainly who the promoters were pushing. I guess my already established anti-Lakers prejudice spilled over onto any team representing LA.

I wonder if sports Twitter is losing any luster. It doesn’t drive a lot of traffic. It seems mostly like a space where your best self isn’t on display.

It's hard to be blown away by the work of either one. I read Passan's book on The Arm- felt a little like undercooked riblets.

That would suck to accomplish everything based solely on your older brother's last name, from getting drafted to becoming some type of pundit who feels like the Patrick Mahomes' brother of baseball.

I understand his brother wanting to wipe his ass, take care of him, see him succeed, I get all of that (truly I do) ... but Ben was a 14th-round pick and became a position player after only three years in the minors. How did he get drafted that high?

In a land ruled by professional wrestlers, bad taste is a nonissue.

Too tame / too lame for Clickbait Nation.

This was an exchange that would have happened within the confines of every newsroom in which I’ve ever worked. In that context, it was kind of entertaining. In the real world, empty and meaningless. Passan got more attention for deleting the tweet than he would have if he had just left it alone.

For my job, I skim "golf twitter" (and typing that as an actual phrase makes my skin itch) and it's largely eye-rolling performance art. The bloggers are the cool kids and some members of the mainstream media are desperately trying to get to their table.

There's a balance to be struck between being a traditional writer while also building an audience that will engage with content. A lot of the Golf Twitter nonsense is skewed too far in one direction, but being on the other end of the spectrum isn't economically viable in today's market.

I was a member of 'MetsTwitter' for an unfortunate spell and it felt like being in a boring high school club.
"Everything Is Awesome!" from the Lego movie (and if you don't agree that everything's awesome then you suck, in no ambiguous terms).
Howie Rose is a rock star in that club, as are the triumvirate of announcers and various second-tier SNY media personalities.
