I got AstroLounge for my birthday when it came out. I’ll still go to it from time to time. I just about always skip All Star.

I don’t know. It’s so bad it’s good. Especially when I’m the middle of this rather depressing song about a boy who thinks his cop dad was killed, they play what sounds like yakety sax riff. As if they were sitting around thinking the song was missing something and someone suggested “what if we invoke a bunch of clowns running around maniacally?” And they all went for it.

Don't know if it's the worst pop song ever but to me it's easily the worst U2 song:

Would not call it a pop song but definitely a Chris Gaines-level turd by one of the biggest bands in the world. The end result of two decades of never being told something was a bad idea.

Or some journalist told Lou it was a bad idea, and he did it out of spite.

    Lou Reed despised journalists.

We got in trouble for booing this at a middle school dance. I stand behind our decision.

That's a remake of a Jacques Brel song. Brel's lyrics are more interesting.

I was around when "The Night Chicago Died" came out, and it was a smash hit right out of the box. And it was pretty catchy, had some good hooks, told a story about fighting in the streets, and even though the radio stations played it about every 10 fucking minutes, it didn't wear you out like "Seasons in the Sun" and "Billy, Don't Be a Hero" did really quick.

So I like it even to this day. Hey, it was the early '70s and AM radio. I guess I have to defend it a little.

I remember watching this at the time thinking that Lou had never heard "Sweet Jane" before they played it much less written it

It’s not like Lou was ever the greatest singer, but he basically spoke the lyrics on the whole album, so it was like Metallica playing background noise at a poetry reading.
