I hate "Talkin' Baseball" by Terry Cashman - yeah, I said it. Even worse were the local knockoffs he made for various teams.

This and “Timber” are songs I secretly liked but refused to ever admit or show outward signs to liking. Super dumb pop songs but it’s all she ever presented them as. I respected that.

Most pop music isn’t made to be more than lighthearted fun in the moment. And most of the songs that try to be Substantial and Important really suffer for the effort.

My brain oscillates so wildly (if you can’t tell from my posting styles) from self-seriousness to youthful absurdity that I prefer a good 1:1 mix.

I forgive Paul Anka somewhat for putting John Prine and Steve Goodman on the road to stardom.

While this would make a tremendous ringtone, it's an awful, awful song.

"The Candyman" was No. 1 when my journalism career started (my first paper route, June 1972). So I've always had a soft spot for that song.

That holds true for a lot of things from my childhood. If hearing it makes me think of what I was doing when I first heard it, it's hard for me to hate it.

Here's a song that I hate to admit I like, and it's for the same reason -- I remember hearing it (a lot) on the radio at the trading post at Boy Scout summer camp:
