This. At the Grand Slams, no one wants to play a qualifier in the first round.

Lot of blame pinned on Roberts and not Turner, Muncy or sundry other choking dogs on the roster.
We will have a fuller picture of how good a team is in 2023 when they're not playing the Royals/Tigers or Diamondbacks/Rockies 38 times a year.
Nearly a quarter of a schedule blocked off with games against such divisional 'rivals'.

One final note after the Astros-Mariners marathon: Robbie Ray is making a whole lot of money in Seattle, and he was tagged with a walkoff 3-run homer in Game 1 of the series and had mop up duty as the last man in the bullpen in the 18th inning Saturday.

The Guardians had a better record against the White Sox and Twins than they did the Royals and Tigers, FWIW.

They are a leak test team. They seal off all the exit points and wait for a seam to give way in their opponent. It’s a fascinating experiment against teams like New York and potentially Houston. I’d guess the Astros are much better prepared for that type of test.

Or in Wetteland’s case, he still has a chance to be walking through the door of the Texas Penal League.

Fun fact: Dodgers we’re eliminated from the LCS and SC lost on the same day last year.

But big or small picture, the saddest day in LA sports news was two years ago when Kobe died. Not really that long ago.

The Dodgers fall short in the playoffs because their front office builds for the 162 and doesn't know how to adapt to the urgency of a short series. Firing Roberts won't do a thing. The manager is just there to absorb the criticism that should be applied to Friedman & Co.

Fun fact: Dodgers won 111 this year and SC was 6-0 and a real contender unlike the last several years.

A real bedshitting day for L.A. sports regardless of who died.

My fun fact was nothing more than that. Just an observation of strange coincidence.

And I’m not saying it wasn’t a sad day in sports for LA (though UCLA fans aren’t that upset today and a sizable number of people were looking up times for the Raiders game) I’m saying the saddest day in a long time is a bit hyperbolic considering Jan. 2020 wasn’t that long ago.

The Tigers traded for Robbie Ray
He was the key piece in the Doug Fister trade with the Nationals
He had a brief call up and got rocked, which didn’t help since Tigers fans were pissed about the trade
They traded him to Arizona that offseason, getting Shane Greene from the Yankees, who got Didi Gregorious from the D-Backs
Reportedly Dave Dombrowski traded Ray because he was the only guy in the farm system Arizona wanted
