Would it be better for a team to win 100-some games and have no chance for a championship at all, like the 1993 Giants?

 

This list now includes the Paders #IYKYK beating the Dodgers after finishing with 22 fewer wins in the regular season. Six of the nine biggest upsets have happened in the wild card era, including three since 2019. It is a modern phenomenon and it's not even close.

I'm sure there would have been plenty of others, pre-1969, but it wasn't possible because it was league winner in, everybody else out.

assuming they just flipped closer in the 8th to deal with top of the order rather than lesser batters in the 9th? Assuming it would have gone peralta 8th then Holmes in 9th based on order
